Sentinel Claw

The Claw Sentinel unit is designed for the specific task of taking abuse and then turning and dishing it out with a deadly efficiency. An offensive unit, the Claw armor is lightweight but heavily reinforced to optimize both defense and speed. Previous Sentinel models were slow and lumbering, this specific model however was meant to negate that via gyro stabilization and a low center of gravity. Unique to the Claw Unit is an ablative armor system and a pair of "hyper arms".

Deflective Armor

Due to its close combat and melee nature, the Claw unit required an armor design that would not only allow for a strong defense, but be light enough so as not to be a hindrance to maneuverability. Enter Tony Stark and his many concepts for his Iron Man armors. Stark new that to make this able to full fill it's task in close range combat, it would need a new armor design not yet seen, one that was not only light weight, but could take a great deal of abuse. Thus was born the deflection armor. As each armor piece was forged for the Claw unit, it was then subjected to a second molding process.

This process utilized molecular slicers developed by Forge(manufacturing units designed to shape the armor to a finer degree utilizing angles) to create a refractive edge on the armor. This edge gives the armor the ability to deflect attacks away from it. Ballistic, energy based, and melee attacks glance and slide off the armor, making chances of damaging it all that much harder. Once each armor piece was completed they were affixed to the Sentinel Claw unit in a series of overlapping panels. This layered shell allowed for greater maneuverability and protection. Together these panels create an impenetrable shell.

Thermetic Claws

The arms of the Claw Sentinel are massive, each one possessing its own power source independent from the main system. These reactor cores are specifically designed to power each arms weaponry. These unique weapons take advantage of Richards BGMM system by harnessing the thermal and cosmic radiation and focusing it into a weapon. The palm mounted pulse blaster apertures have been significantly enlarged, allowing not only for larger attacks, but a greater variety. Thermal, plasma, kinetic, and concussive blasts can be fired at varying intensities and ranges. At maximum output the unit can fire a beam or pulse of concentrated energy for a distance of 15 miles with the explosive blast yield equivalent to 15 tons. This creates a blast radius roughly 600 feet in diameter.

While the long range capability of the unit has been proven to be effective, it was as stated, designed for close combat. Thus the weapon system is used in more conventional ways. Energy blasts are focused and reduced, fired a split second before the unit strikes with its claws, creating an enhanced energy based punch if you will; this is most effective when kinetic energy is used. The thermal blasts are also rechanneled directly into the claws creating a heated aura effect allowing for the claws to have a much higher effectiveness at damaging there target.

Sentinel Blaster

The Blaster Sentinel unit specializes in ranged combat. Packing enough firepower the Blaster unit can devastate its enemy from affair without entering combat. As program head, James Rhodes wanted to ensure that not only would the pilots of each armor be sufficiently protected, but more than capable of defending themselves offensively. The Blaster Sentinel was designed with this specifically in mind. A distance unit, the Blaster Sentinel provides cover fire as well as full on assault against any opposition.

This Sentinel was not only inspired by the War Machine armor, but designed by James Rhodes himself. In order to full fill the goals of the program, it was deemed necessary that the Blaster unit should make up for the lack of offensive capabilities found in the other units in terms of fire power. Specific to the Blaster Sentinel is its advanced flight system. Thanks to the workings of Reed Richards this unit is capable of near continuous flight, allowing it to stay airborne above the battle field, relaying tactical data to the other Sentinel units and allowing for a better vantage point to lay down cover fire. Additionally, the Blaster Sentinel has a multi-vector firing system which not only allows it to track multiple targets, but the unit is capable of firing on a minimum of 16 targets simultaneously. This is not only achieved by the multi-vector system, but by enhancements to the drive and mobility systems. Suffice to say, the Blaster unit has an extremely fast response/reaction time that tends to surpass that of the other units.

From a defensive perspective, the Blaster Sentinel utilizes a Zero-point shielding system. A radical designed based on work by Tony Stark and Forge, the shield surrounds the unit at all times, nullifying nearly every attack that comes at it. This is done by taking any form of energy that hits the shield, be it a direct blast of lightning, or a punch (which is backed by kinetic energy) and reducing it to it's null oscillation, or lowest point of movement, rendering it virtually harmless.

Sentinel Tanker

A defensive unit, the Tanker Sentinel unit is designed to take any abuse no matter what the attack and to then defend itself and fellow sentinels from that attack. the unit was designed with two thought in mind: Adaptability and protection. Already equipped with multiple layers of Carbon Nanotube Armor, secondary defensive systems were installed. Looking back to previous Iron Man armors as templates, the development team determined that Starks forcefield units would be well suited for a defensive Sentinel if properly modified. To further augment the defensive capabilities of not only the unit but for the team the Tanker Sentinel is outfitted with several different shield projection systems as well as advanced monitoring systems. These monitoring systems not only provide continual information in regards to the battle for optimized defense, but also keeps the Tanker pilot up to date as of the condition of his fellow Sentinel and their pilots should they require additional assistance.

The shield generator system on the Tanker is of exceptional quality and beyond it's years. For years Tony Stark has employed various force fields with his Iron Man armors. This was taken to a whole new level with the help of Forge and Reed Richards. Throughout the exterior of the Tanker unit are various projection nods and control rods designed to regulate and project the various shields. These rods for all intent and purposes are virtually untouchable due to the power and shielding they generate; The closer one is to a generator, the more protected they are.

The shield system operates in two ways: Proximity and Projection. The first system, Proximity, utilizes an interlink system with the other Sentinel Units. When the Sentinels are with 600 feet of each other the Sentinel Tanker unit overrides the shield systems of the other units and regulates there defense, the pilot selecting the necessary shields for the unit based on the combat data it receives. This can be overridden however at the discretion of the pilot of the other Sentinel, however can place them at a disadvantage as they will no longer be able to manipulate there shields to the extent the Tanker can.

The second System, Projection, is based on a bubble like projection system. Utilizing it's shield generators the Tanker projects a sphere of energy around itself and those within 300 feet of the unit, those inside the field are protected from any attack of the chosen field type. This is not to say they are completely untouchable. A powerful enough blast or attack could defeat the shield just as is possible with any other kind of defensive system, be it armor, wall, shield, etc. It should be noted however that the Tanker unit is specifically designed for taking abuse, as is it's shields, therefore it would take one mighty powerful blast to take out it's shields.

Molecular reinforced Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Armor

Carbon nanotubes are one of the strongest and fortified materials known, in terms of tensile strength and elastic modulus respectively. Having a tensile strength of 63 GPa, it surpasses many common materials. As a comparison, high-carbon steel has a tensile strength of approximately 1.2 GPa.

Diamond 162,000 23,496,095
Aggregated diamond nanorods 491,000 71,213,475

As one can see in the chart above, the carbon nanotube arm can withstand a significant amount of stress. Originally developed Russian metallurgists Radushkevich and Lukyanovich, the microscopic material was ignored for many years. Upon researching for stronger, more durable materials, Forge came across the Carbon Nanotube. It would not take him long with his unique gift to develop any machine neccessary to solve a problem he went to work. Over the course of several years he devised a machine that could mass produce the finely spun wire like carbon. In its standard form the wire material had limited use, it's current use being found in electronic and nanotechnology application. To be of any use Forge developed an additional process that would bond the strands together to create a solid sheet. Through an intense heating process that pushed the material pasts its Curie point and molecular bonding, he succeeded. Forge however knew that this material would be sought after should be released on the open market. Light weight and flexible, yet unbelievably strong, Forge hid what information he had. Years later upon being contacted through as of yet unidentified military contact, Forge was asked to work in the new Sentinel project along side James Rhodes, Reed Richards, and Tony Stark. With Magneto's recent nuclear strikes and continued assault upon the nations of the world, Forge felt this would be the right time to use his carbon nanotube armor.

Command Core

During the conceptual phase of the Sentinel Guardian project it was believed that a cockpit like area located inside the Sentinel unit would be the best choice at controlling the machines. The program already called for human control, thus the idea was well suited. James Rhodes however felt this was insufficient and could potentially leave the pilots in danger should they exit there units. Second to this it brought to light a potential security flaw in the units. Should a pilot not be in or near his unit, it was possible for the unit(s) to be hijacked at anytime. Thusly, an alternative was presented. Having many years experience as War Machine, Rhodes new that the best way to control the units was to BE the unit. This meant that the pilots would have to interact directly with there units on a finer level of control. It was proposed that each pilot was equipped with their own personal armor much like Iron Man or War Machine. Due to past "issues" Stark was against this idea, worries of his technology falling into the wrong hands being the key concern. Keeping this idea alive it was then proposed that an armor would still be used, however it would be one that was already in use where. Selected for the task was the Vault Sentry guard armor. These armored units, already designed by Stark and mass produced, as well as known to the public would the candidates for an alternative control core to replace the traditional cockpit.

Working side by side, Tony Stark and James Rhodes began an upgrade of several Sentry armors. The upgrades included: Increase in armor protection, weapon systems to include palm repulsors, unit beams, and wrist Shield, enhanced sensor suite, and direct neural interface controls. Security an issue, each Sentry armor was then keyed to the specific bio signature of its user, as well as neural pattern thereby ensuring that no one else could use it. Once upgrades were completed, these units were then given a modular system similar to the Model XVIII Modular Armor Iron Man design, with specific focus on the Ultimate module set up kindly dubbed "Hulk Buster". Turning to the Sentinel Units, each was given a specialized interlock module system inside its chest cavity. These interlock systems were keyed to both a specific Sentry armor and to that Sentry armor users bio-signature/neural pattern. The end result was a key; without the correct Sentry armor the Sentinel unit would not function. When connected the systems would combine and active, whatever movement the Sentry armor user made would then be translated to the Sentinel, mimicking his motion. The modular interlock system depended on each piece to work the Sentinel Unit. If for example the left hand gauntlet of the Sentry armor was missing, then the left forearm of the Sentinel Unit would not function. To further battle roles, the Tanker Sentinel core system utilized a remodeled/upgraded SHIELD Firepower armor.

In the event of system failure or the life of the pilot was threatened, they could eject from the inner core of the Sentinel. Having their own armor they had a fighting chance to survive and escape should they still be threatened.
